FC Dallas 1, New England Revolution, 0
DALLAS At a historic game at the Cotton Bowl on Sept. 30, FC Dallas edged in one goal to beat New England Revolution, 1-0. Jeff Cunnningham scored the only goal in the game as more than 51,000 attendees watched.
With the win, FC Dallas improves to 9-12-6 (33 pts.) and remains in seventh place in the Western Conference, four points out of the last playoff spot.
Four Dallas players missed the match while with the U.S. U-20 team playing in the FIFA U-20 World Cup tournament in Egypt: Peri Marosevic, Brek Shea, Kyle Davies and Josh Lambo. The U.S. squad beat Cameroon 4-1 to secure second place in Group C, Shea played the full 90 minutes.
FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman on the game: “Tonight they were smart players on killing the game and not allowing goals in the last minutes of the game, but at the same time it’s something we continue to work on in training."
Other notes:
* The win evens the season series between the clubs at one win each. Dallas is now 10-22-1 all time against the Revolution.
* This was Dallas’ fifth shutout of the season and FC Dallas Captain Dario Sala’s fourth.
* Cunningham scored his 16th goal of the season and 120th of his career tonight. Cunningham’s current streak of consecutive games with a goal extends to five games.
* Cunningham is currently in sole possession of first place in the race for the Budweiser Golden Boot.
* Jair Benitez earned his first MLS assist tonight when he crossed the ball to Cunningham. Harris earned the secondary assist, his fourth of the season with Dallas and sixth in the League.
* Atiba Harris received his fifth yellow card of the season in the match and will not be available for next week’s game versus San Jose.
* Andre Rocha received a red card, also making him unavailable for next week’s game.
* Dave van den Bergh left in the 26th minute tonight with a right ankle injury.
* Two FCD players have now started all 27 regular season games: David Ferreira and Dave van den Bergh.
* Defender Anthony Wallace missed the game with a left knee injury.
FC Dallas will go on the road next Wednesday, Oct. 7 to face San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium; the game will kick off at 9 p.m. CT.
