Four Dallas ISD teachers receive surprise donations of $1,000 worth of classroom supplies

UPDATE: The four names of the teachers involved have been withheld because they will be surprised on Oct. 6.

Four Dallas ISD teachers have been selected by their principals to join 1,000 teachers nationwide to receive the "A Day Made Better" honor from OfficeMax at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6. The surprise event is an effort by OfficeMax to eliminate teacher-funded classrooms.

The third annual A Day Made Better event will include surprise in-class ceremonies where teachers will receive a donation of $1,000 worth of classroom supplies per each selected teacher.

According to a national study conducted by the National Education Association, teachers spend nearly $1,200 out-of-pocket each year on essential classroom supplies — nearly $4 billion cumulatively.

To provide economic relief for teachers and encourage national support, hundreds of OfficeMax associates — working secretly with local school principals — will deliver much-needed supplies to teachers in their classrooms across the country.

OfficeMax partnered with nonprofit Adopt-A-Classroom to identify schools and teachers across the country to receive this honor.
