Second branch of Cowboy Chow opens in Roanoke
The second Cowboy Chow outpost is now open on Oak Street in the heart of historic downtown Roanoke, recently designated as the “Unique Dining Capital of Texas.” Located next door to its sister restaurant, Food Network-famed Twisted Root Burger Co., the new 4,000-square-foot Cowboy Chow offers a spot for diners to experience the soul of Texas cooking with rustic flavors and slow cooked meats for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.
Proprietor and Executive Chef Jason Boso has incorporated Cowboy Chow’s open-range dining concept and laid-back welcoming atmosphere into the already family-friendly environment of downtown Roanoke. Should there be a wait on a busy night, patrons can enjoy a real Mexican Coke or Mexican Sprite while enjoying the breeze on Cowboy Chow’s spacious front porch, complete with hand-made rocking chairs.
On weekend nights, diners can also listen to some true Texas tunes, as live bands will entertain. Much like the cast-iron cooking, Cowboy Chow’s expansive interior evokes thoughts from days past with a rustic, country kitchen feel, with solid wood tables and booths.
Boso pours his award-winning homemade watermelon iced tea from glass carafes, checks are presented to patrons in card deck boxes and silverware is stashed behind the salt and pepper in a mason jar. With seating to accommodate 120 guests and full catering capabilities, Cowboy Chow Roanoke has plenty of room to host family gatherings, parties, rehearsal dinners, or corporate events.
Noted for its brisket tacos, Cowboy Chow features a variety of meats slowly braised in flavorful juices for a minimum of seven hours. A few must-try items include Fried Green Tomato Lollipops and Dr Pepper Braised Beef Ribs, not to mention the famous Mashed ‘Tater Parfait.
In addition to catering to the carnivorous population, Cowboy Chow’s modern country menu includes several favorites to oblige non-meat eaters, including Veggie Tacos and Cowboy Nachos. For “ladies who lunch” and prefer a meal on the lighter side, fear not, because any of the specialty tacos can be converted into a substantial salad, with or without the avocado-lime cream.
The recently updated Cowboy Chow menu features new items like Chorizo Corn Dogs and Buffalo Hot Dogs topped with jack cheese, cast iron grilled onions and Horseradish dijon mustard. Also new to the menu is Boso’s renowned Lamburger, which recently competed in the Fort Worth “For The Love of Lamb” Lamb Burger Bonanza Cook Off. Diners won’t want to miss hearty servings of Cowboy Beans and a Southwest Gazpacho Shooter for only $1. Act like a true cowboy and get wild at the full bar by sampling a variety of creative, new drinks such as the Bacon Infused Bourbon Shot, Mexican Bean and White Chocolate Bourbon, Peach Infused Bourbon with Cream Soda, and Watermelon Infused Vodka with Mexican Sprite.
Cowboy Chow and Twisted Root Burger Co. are located in Oak Street Plaza I, the new 11,320-square-foot retail center in Roanoke, created by Old Town Development Inc., which is part of the city’s current multi-million dollar revitalization project.
Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with brunch served Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner is served Sunday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
