Guitar Center Plano hosting national drum competition

Guitar Center Plano is one of the locations across the country that is in the preliminary round of the world’s largest drumming contest, Guitar Center’s Drum-Off, which crowns the “Best Undiscovered Drummer in the Nation.” The preliminary round takes place on October 8, with a local winner chosen during the store finals on October 15.

Now in its 21st year, Guitar Center’s Drum-Off has been a launching pad for numerous professional drummers, including Cora Coleman-Dunham and Tony Royster Jr, two Drum-Off winners who have gone on to become highly acclaimed professional drummers (with Prince and Jay Z, respectively).

Local competitions take place at 214 Guitar Center locations. One winner from each store is chosen to move up to 24 district competitions. That's followed by regionally hosted semi-finals at six locations, culminating in the final championship Drum-Off in Los Angeles in January 2010.
