The lethargic Rangers were in dire need of a little pick-me-up Saturday night in Seattle.
The Texas Rangers went through the end-of-the-season motions Saturday night, losing 2-1 to the Mariners in Seattle. The loss dropped Texas to 87-74 on the year.
Rangers starter Tommy Hunter finished his up-and-down rookie season with something of a whimper, allowing two runs on nine hits over four-plus innings. Hunter, who started the season with a phenomenal win-loss and ERA stats, finished the year at 9-6 with a 4.10 ERA.
The Rangers did manage to score one run in the top of the seventh to avoid the shutout. Rookie Elvis Andrus hit a ground-rule double that drove in Chris Davis for Texas' sole run. The team as a whole collected just seven hits and three walks.
