Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, October 8-14

0

Will the rain ever stop? Who am I, Al Roker? The best I can do is give you options for top-notch entertainment and hope that the weather allows you to enjoy it.

First up is Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body at the Sci Tech Discovery Center in Frisco. The exhibit, which started last Saturday, features such activities as a "human skin" wall with warts and all that kids can climb, help a cartoon character burp, and learn the multiple reasons people vomit. Sounds like a modern-day version of The Garbage Pail Kids. You can check it out every day except Monday through January 3.

Starting Friday, October 9, Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm in Allen will hold their Fall Fine Arts Festival. The three-day festival will feature a variety of artists, bands, and the ever-popular duck derby.

Also starting on Friday is Musicarte 2009 at Sundance Square in Fort Worth. The two-day free event is billed as the Southwest's largest Latino festival, with lots of food, art, and music. People can learn how to dance, do arts and crafts, and much more.

It must be the weekend of festivals -- on Saturday, October 10 there's also the Plano International Festival at Haggard Park and the Castle Hills Fall Festival at the Castle Hills Village Shops Plaza in Lewisville. Both will include all the usual family-friendly amenities such as carnival games, music, and food.

Finally, on Sunday, October 11, McDavid Studio in Fort Worth will present two showings of Choo-Choo Soul with Genevieve! Aimed at preschool children, the Disney singer uses hip-hop to teach manners, ABCs, and 1-2-3's.
