Parents, kids, police officers fight crime at National Night Out in Oak Cliff
Pictures of cute kids hugging police officers included.
OAK CLIFF At Oak Cliff's National Night Out on Oct. 6, kids and families were given the full explanation of why it's safe to be crime-free. Police officers assisted children in making ID kits and practiced making safe 911 calls from a mock call center.
Families gathered at Hitt Auditorium for the evening event, sponsored by Methodist Health System. Police officer Teresa Vela organized the event.
Attendees showed a genuine concern for the safety of their community, said photographer Elliot Muñoz. And they had proof to back it up: Chief of Police Robert Johnson and Michael Mayo, president of Methodist Dallas Medical Center, were presented with an award for hosting one of the most active National Night Out programs in the state of Texas.
