Dallas frozen yogurt meltdown: Cocoberry in Richardson

Editor's note: Latest chapter in our series on frozen yogurt covers Cocoberry in Richardson.

Opened: September 2009

Profile: Small self-serve place in Richardson took over space that was previously occupied by Lollicup, a vendor of last-year's-fad, bubble tea.

Ambiance: Not nearly as "designed" as some of its peers, Cocoberry has a low-key utilitarian feeling, with more stainless steel and not too much of that tiny ceramic tile that's a fro-yo-shop trademark. Decor is an odd melange, with high white plastic chairs sharing space with '50s-style hanging lamps and more generic tables and chairs. A flat-screen TV hangs in a corner of the room.

In addition to yogurt, they also do espresso drinks, teas (including bubble tea), and smoothies, and have a refrigerated case filled with nice-looking French-style pastries.

Utensils: One size paper cup, and regular pink plastic spoons.

Price: 35 cents per ounce, pretty reasonable price.

Yogurt: Three machines, six flavors. This being somewhat of an Asian neighborhood, there is almost always green tea on one of the machines, and there is occasionally an additional tart flavor in addition to the "original (or plain) tart".

Verdict: Recommend. Selection limited but good; not too expensive; and yay for someone willing to open east of US 75.

I went there once. It was pretty good. I tried not to fill my cup too full though & got a little scoop of nuts and a few berries and it was almost $5.00. I thought that was pretty expensive for fro yo, but maybe I'm just behind the times. I still think of it as an 80's fad which goes to show I probably am!

Thanks for reviewing this. I'd been watching the (somewhat slow) buildout of the place and wanted to try it out.
