Deceleration lane scheduled to open at Trinity River Audubon Center
A new deceleration lane is under construction on Loop 12 East at the entrance to the access road leading to the Trinity River Audubon Center. The 450-foot long lane will help improve traffic flow for drivers approaching the center.
When it is complete, the new lane will be a visual signal for drivers to slow down and move to the right lane for turning into the center. It also increases the turning radius of the roadway from 30 feet to 45 feet to better accommodate buses and larger vehicles. Construction is being handled by the City of Dallas Streets Department for the Trinity River Corridor Project in conjunction with City of Dallas Park and Recreation. Completion is scheduled for early November.
The Trinity River Audubon Center is holding their anniversary celebration this weekend. “Yes, look who’s turning one,” said Trinity River Audubon Center Director Chris Culak. “We’re excited about this celebration and our first year in operation. This first Nature Fest event is all about connecting people to nature through art and exploration and everyone is invited,” he said. The construction at the entrance is obvious to the visitors, but signs will be posted to direct them into the entrance.
Admission is free to Nature Fest enthusiasts. On-site parking is available for $5 with free parking also available nearby outside of the grounds area. Shuttle service will be provided to the center. The event will be Oct. 10-11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information call (214) 398-8722 or visit www.trinityriveraudubon.org.
