Concert review: My Denton Music Party at Dan’s Silver Leaf (October 9)

0

— Before I start, I would like to say thank you to all of the fans and readers of My Denton Music. Your support has made it possible for us to close the gap between artist, bands, fans, and venues. The My Denton Music Party Friday night at Dan's Silver Leaf was made possible because of you.

The night got started with perhaps the best opening band I have ever seen at any show. Denton super group Backside Pick kicked things off just as the wonderful folks at HotBox Pizza were delivering their first wave of complimentary pizzas to the crowd. Not much more you could ask for. The pies were outstanding, the music was funky, the beer was cold ... yeah, I was pretty happy!

Backside Pick did what they always do. They delivered a top notch performance worthy of a headlining spot, but as gracious as they are great, the band made the most of the opening spot. By the end of their set, the room was as full as everyone's bellies and the surprise of the night got ready to take the stage.

The Bastard Sons of Skoalfield are an outstanding compilation who really have to be seen live to experience their greatness. They are funky, energetic, and exciting. I knew they were going to bring something to the stage when I heard their recorded stuff, but had no idea it was going to be as great of a performance as it was.

Finally, the headliners took the stage, for only the second time ever in Denton Dirty Little Mouth played to a packed house. You need to see this band if you have not done it yet! They are simply outstanding and they sounded great at Dan's. The perfect blend of hard rock and dance pop is what they bring to the stage with precise execution. Dirty Little Mouth really has something great going on, and every person at Dan's on Friday night got to see it first hand.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on this group as they move forward. With only a few months left in 2009, which has been sort of a coming out party for the group, look for 2010 to be the year they really explode.

Overall, the third My Denton Music party was a huge hit. Thanks to Dan's for hosting, the bands for rocking, HotBox Pizza for the best tasting pizza I have ever had, and all of our readers who make all of this possible.
