Episcopal School of Dallas to present artist invitational exhibition
The Visual Arts Faculty at the Episcopal School of Dallas has organized the invitational exhibition, Artist As Teacher | Teacher As Artist, October 5 to November 30, 2009. Thirty-six artists from 11 area schools are participating. A reception with the artists will be held on Friday, October 16 from 6-8 p.m.
Organizer and ESD visual arts faculty member Vikki Martin says, "The purpose of the Artist As Teacher | Teacher As Artist Invitational Exhibition is to showcase the talents of local artists who choose to share their experience and expertise with young people through the joy of teaching. These talented educators continue to make time in their lives to practice their vocation and craft. This makes the relationship between student and teacher even more valuable, by providing the opportunity for a student to work with a practicing and professional artist."
This purpose is compatible with the philosophy of ESD's rector and headmaster, The Reverend Stephen B. Swann. "The Episcopal School of Dallas attracts and supports a faculty of professional, working artists who share their talents with students. Artist As Teacher | Teacher As Artist Invitational Exhibition reflects the commitment of other fine schools in the Metroplex who understand how artists, working with children, can best teach how art relates to the rest of their school curriculum, how art influences culture, and how culture can influence what artists create."
