Queer Liberaction to hold Queer Kiss-In at Fort Worth Stockyards

10

— On October 17, 2009 at the Fort Worth Stockyards, Queer LiberAction is set to hold a Queer Kiss-in. The Fort Worth Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community is increasingly becoming more visible and active since the police raid at the Rainbow Lounge this past summer. This event, which will run from 5 to 6 p.m., affirms that LGBT couples have just as much right as straight people to display their affections for the person whom they love in public. LGBT activists with Queer LiberAction intend to challenge the status quo by displaying their affections for one another in a positive and affirming way in a very socially conservative area of the city.

Passersby and visitors should expect to see rainbow flags, pro-Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender (GLBT) signs, and of course men kissing men and women kissing women. A queer kissing booth, free “queer hugs” and queer kiss-in games are all planned aspects of this fun event intended to get people to think about how GLBT people live in places where they have to hide who they are and who they love.

“In 2009, GLBT people have every right to display our affections publically just as everyone else does. Our community is harassed in our own bars and clubs. We do not have the right to marry the person whom we love. We are not included in federal hate crime legislation which protects us from violence directed towards our community, and we can be fired from our jobs simply for being gay. It is of the utmost importance now to respectfully but without falter publicly affirm who we are and who we love. We are holding the Queer Kiss-in at the Fort Worth Stockyards to illustrate how GLBT people are treated as second class citizens in our everyday lives,” says Blake Wilkinson, founder of Queer LiberAction.

The event is designed to be visually interesting and fun while carrying a serious message. The message of the event will be that GLBT people should be able to express their affections in public without the fear of looks, intimidation, or violence.

Queer LiberAction organized a Queer Kiss-in in February as part of National Freedom to Marry Day and in August as part of the Great Nationwide Kiss-in.

John McClelland says:

Gay or straight, I don't think many people find the Stockyards to be the place to kiss your significant other. "Hey honey, look at the slab of beef! Smooch" Or maybe I am wrong.

If there was a WalMart kiss in, then you might get national exposure on peopleofwalmart.com

John - I am SOOOO glad you said it first.

Yeah- few things as romantic as the smell of livestock.... NOT gonna go down that path.
Though the opportunity to scoff ScoDo's prom date, is near irresistible

ok, I know it's been years since it functioned as a real stockyard, but <<shudder>> just the thought.

Now a coupla years back, capitalizing on Brokeback Mountain.... mmmmmaybe. Nah.

Ah, well, Go for it guys!

Despite J-Rice's opp to take a cheap shot, I'd like to go on record as a tally mark for the "nobody cares" column.

The event is designed to be visually interesting and fun

Blatant attention-whoring.

without the fear of looks

If two straight people were making out in a stock yard I'd give them a funny look just the same. You're not accomplishing anything.

::Despite J-Rice's opp to take a cheap shot,

That actually was the ONLY reason I cared.

But I think that is a very valid reason.

This group tries to pull off the old "Act Up gay activism from the 80's in the Reagan era. These North Dallas Twinks do no service to the gay community by holding this event, The do not help or build anything for us. They are bored and have Mom & Dads north Dallas money to play. They really need to organize grass roots, get involved with the Local Stonewall Democrats or the Log Cabin republicans to make change. Change happens on legislationm foot work, canvassing, do they even know who their own neighborhood State Representative is? LOL C'mon guys ..You were all (6 of you) were asked to leave Fort Worth City Hall Chambers by the Mayor during the TABC Raid on the Rainbowlounge, You Lost that night accomplished NOTHING. Go back to the Big D,maybe a handfull of Cowboys in the stock yards will get your asses back to your side of the fence Saturday Night. (If you were smart you might have done it round noon when the folks haven't been drinking all all day.)

When was the last time you saw a news story about heterosexuals kissing at the stockyards? NEVER! When was the last time you heard Hub advocate violence (whipping) for people that kiss in public? NEVER! Because of this unequal treatment of GLBT folks I support this PDA until it becomes a non-issue and GLBT folks are welcome to express love for their loved ones in public

For something that actually does benefit the LGBT Community, join us tonight.

LGBT Equality: We Need A Plan.

Meeting #2 - Thursday, October 15th from 7pm - 9 pm

iLume Apartments - 4123 Cedar Springs Rd., Oak Lawn, Dallas TX

Entrance on Knight Street (Across from B of A)

This past weekend demonstrated that as a community, we have gone beyond infighting and we actually protest each other's efforts. Plus, the "LGBT-Rights Industry" does not have a strategy or plan for our equality - even though we donate hundreds of millions of dollars.

It's broke. Let's fix it.

ANYBODY that is committed to full equality for the LGBT community is invited to attend. This important conversation is intended to create a cohesive strategy and a unified effort to obtain our equality.

RSVP not required, just show up and bring your ideas.
