Mono -- Friday, October 16 at Hailey's

Formed in 1999 in Tokyo, Japan, Mono has traveled the world displaying their brand of instrumental rock. Currently they are on tour in support of their fifth studio album, Hymn to the Immortal Win.

They bring together the worlds of classical music and contemporary rock to create something very unique. It will be worth heading out to Hailey's to check these guys out if for nothing else because you might not get a chance to see them again. Still based in Japan, this is the first time the band has been to the U.S. in about two years. Who knows when they will be back ... and in Denton?

William Elliott Whitmore -- Friday, October 16 at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio

This deep-voiced musician is one of the most intriguing and exciting artists in the folk/blues genre. Hailing from the heartland of our country, this Iowa native has roots in everything from classic country to hardcore punk rock.

However, the show at RGRS this Friday will showcase the most familiar form of Whitmore, which is primarily an acoustic guitar or a banjo strapped around his shoulder.

His sound is hypnotic. I could literally listen to his music for hours on end. It is beautiful stuff. Here is a small sample of what I am talking about, but I invite you to check out more. And absolutely head out to RGRS on Friday!

Elliot Brood -- Saturday, October 17 at Hailey's

One of the best bands from north of the border, Elliot Brood is making a name for themselves as one of Canada's premiere acts. They are still on tour in promotion of their third and by far best studio album which was released in 2008 entitled Mountain Meadows. It is currently up for a Polaris Prize, an honor awarded annually to Canada's best album.

Their self titled style, Death Country, is a perfect fit. Check out the video to get a taste of what they mean. This is the show I am looking forward to most this week and you should be too. The best of the Canadian music scene should get a warm welcome here in Denton!
