Freshman at Southern Methodist University wins C-USA weekly award
DALLAS SMU freshman defensive back Margus Hunt was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week Monday. Hunt blocked two field goals in SMU’s 28-21 victory over East Carolina Saturday.
One of his blocks led to a 65-yard touchdown return by Bryan McCann. He also blocked a 23-yard attempt in the first quarter. Saturday was his second straight game with a blocked field goal.
Hunt, a native Estonian playing his first ever football season, was also awarded an ESPN Helmet Sticker for Saturday’s performance.
Hunt won gold medals in both the shot and discus at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Beijing, which made him the first athlete to win both events.
The Mustangs are 2-0 in C-USA play and take on out-of-conference opponent, Navy, Saturday at Ford Stadium.
