Dallas radio jock Jack E. Jett launches music show, returns to talk this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 17 & 18)
Sorry, Anne Lockhart. You had your chance. (I mean, your chance to guest-host on the Jack E. Jett radio show on Dallas-based Rational Radio.) Jett returns to the broadcast booth this weekend after taking a few weeks off for a "self-inventory." (Sounds like navel-gazing to me.)
Since Lockhart won't be guest-hosting as originally planned this Sunday, Oct. 18, from 1-3 p.m., our own Mike Orren will man the backup mic while Jack and crew get up to their usual talk show shenanigans. (It should be noted that Mike will be the second PegNewser to guest-host the show.)
Here's the lineup of guests for the Sunday show:
Brother Harry Hardwick from the Landover Baptist Church will join us to discuss whether every American will now burn in hell since Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Aviva Kempner, director of the new film Yoo Hoo Mrs Goldberg, will oy vey and kvetch about making movies about Jews.
Dennis Hof, owner of The Bunny Ranch and star of Cathouse on HBO, will discuss his recent on-air break up (which has yet to air) with Brooke, and talk about his efforts to offer major discounts on his many products to members of Congress.
Frank Bilic from Trading Spaces will discuss his upcoming appearance at the Petober Fest sponsored by North Dallas Veterinarians Group, which will raise money for several animal charities.
Lloyd Kaufman, director of some of the world's most cinematic classics, will discuss his new venture, The Toxic Avenger, The Musical, and his new book, Produce Your Own Damn Movie.
On Saturday, Oct.. 17, Jack will spring a special "old new wave" and punk rock-themed show on unsuspecting listeners, drawing on his years spent as the only male aboard The Go-Go's tour bus (where, he states, he learned the value of PMS on American society). Joining him in this endeavor will be Rob Lobster -- characterized by Jett as "King of the Midwest Cornfield Mosh Pits" circa 1982-86.
Here's what Jack wants everyone to know about his "two-hour musical romp with the coolest baby boomers from Planet Claire":
While one crowd was line dancing, bumping and doing the Hustle, another was slamming, mosh-pit thrashing and doing the Pogo. Many feel that New Wave music never left us, that it was just brushed over to the side to make room for rappers and schlock rock. When the daughter of Achy Breaky Heart spawns with Disney, then we know that it is time for New Wave music to return.
New Wave and Punk have grit. Both forms of music mean something. We don’t know what, so we are going to pull it off the sidelines and try to figure it out.
Interspersed with Patti Smith and Black Flag will be The B 52’s, Depeche Mode, a dash of X, and for no apparent reason, a piece of Bubble Gum every now and then.
The songs will be preceded with very little DJ chatter, but will include facts, figures and unique trivia to help our Boom Waver rediscover the moment. The show will be heavily driven by listener requests and special dedications.
The Jack E. Jett Show airs Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and repeats again at midnight. It can be found at 1360 AM, Rational Radio, or heard streaming online by going here.

I love the music show. I have never heard someone play Patti Smith and Dick Van Dyke back to back. It made me pull out all my vinyl records from the 80's. I couldn't get through for a request.

I had a great time! Rob Lobster, John No Dough, and Jack E. Jett just had to take us there. Rob was like, take it. Jack was like, bring it. John was like, it is on!
As soon as the show started on Saturday, callers began flooding the lines so they could place their dedication(s) or request a song. Plus, The Jack E. Jett Show played some rad punk and new wave music. On Sunday, guest co-host, Mike Orren, President of Pegasus News, took to the microphone. He played along and tried to get a word in between Jack and his guests. It was a great show with great guests. I was impressed with Lloyd Kaufman who was at a convention where Adrienne Barbeau had a booth set up across from his. During a commercial break, he lured Adrienne to the phone. That just made the guys' day. I like the way the show is willing to take changes and try new things.

It was a lot of fun: Truthiness is right that I didn't blather on as much as you might expect. The two guests I actually had good questions for were Hof (bad cell connection) and Kaufman (surprise Barbeau appearance). So I mostly hung back and let the experts do their thing, dropping in a few quips here and there.

(Believe it or not, that's not a camera trick. Jack really was that blurry.)
Really appreciate the guys having me on -- was an impressive operation and a great show...
