Plano family expo to benefit local kids’ crisis shelter
As the final phase of My Friend’s House, the newest initiative of CITY House draws near — CITY House is Collin County’s first and only teen homeless shelter — one local parenting magazine is calling on ghosts, goblins, families, and friends to help support this worthy cause.
“The Second Annual North Texas Kids Family Expo is dedicated to two important things,” shares Minette Riordan, Ph.D., North Texas Kids publisher, “providing families with a safe, exciting way to celebrate Halloween, while also raising money and awareness for the programs of CITY House, a phenomenal nonprofit based in Plano that provides emergency crisis shelter for children ages birth to 17.”
The free event, held Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Plano Centre, will offer more than 115 family-focused vendors, kids’ costume contests, mobile gaming vans, consignments sales, entertainment and educational seminars covering the flu shot controversy, healthy eating, and more. Child care will be provided during sessions.
“Halloween is such an exciting day for kids,” says Riordan, “and this year it’ll be even more exciting for parents as we come together during the expo to not only support, but to celebrate a much-needed resource for children in our community.”
