PLANO Three quips describe Shock of Pleasure's show at Shops of Legacy on Oct. 17: Great sound. Great people. Fun group.
Hailing from Dallas, the band is led by Kelley Christian, who's also a model. The group is easy on the ears and easy on the eyes, now promoting their new album out since September, Not My Angel.
The group delivered the same lilting, romantic sound in-person that they captured on Not My Angel. For all its electronic twists and turns, the band is versatile without falling into the chaotic. Music director and guitarist Robert Romano coaxes a nice variety of soothing electronic sounds from his jumble of computer, keyboard, guitar and array of pedals. With or without vocals, Shock of Pleasure is a “close your eyes and sway to the music” kind of band -- but add Christian's sultry voice and you have something very different.
Romantic, yes. Techno, sometimes. Gentle and alluring, always. It was enough to get them dancing in the street at the Shops at Legacy.
