Is Southwest Center Mall’s Fiesta Mundo a family entertainment venue or Latin nightclub?

OAK CLIFF — Outside the old Dillard’s space at Southwest Center Mall is a banner proclaiming the arrival of Fiesta Mundo next Spring. At a community meeting a few weeks back, Mayor Tom Leppert referred to the effort as a “family entertainment” venue. The image was something to the effect of Main Event, which has locations throughout North Texas.

But members of the Oak Cliff community have been told that what’s coming to the mall is a “Latin nightclub.” A petition is making its way around whose signers are saying “I DO NOT SUPPORT FIESTA MUNDO NIGHT CLUB ZONING CHANGE AT SOUTHWEST CENTER MALL.” The true purpose of the space remains unclear.
