Moosehound -- Thursday, Oct. 22 at The Boiler Room

Thursday night at The Boiler Room is going to be one funky, groovy evening. Headlining the show is a major group in Denton's arsenal of talented funk and jazz inspired acts, Moosehound. If you're familiar with and enjoy the East Coast jazz/funk stylings of Rudder or Oz Noy you will love these local favorites.

Comprised of veteran musicians of the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band and Denton's own Snarky Puppy, these guys have got some serious skill and head-bouncing groove to match. Read a previous review of Moosehound or better yet launch their Music Player on their profile page.

Also playing is Smiling at the Ceiling, The Effinays, and the always outstanding Jambang. This will be a fantastic night of music!

The Black Heart Procession -- Saturday, Oct. 24 at Hailey's

I am absolutely astounded every time I hear this band. I just love them. Hailing from San Diego, California The Black Heart Procession have taken that incredibly tough step from amazing indie band, to one of the hottest groups on the fringe of the mainstream. They are in town in promotion of their latest album, Six, which was just released a couple of weeks ago.

They are dark and exciting and once you hear them you want more. The most local band I would compare them to would have to be pAper chAse out of Dallas. They share the same dimly lit approach to music that creates something truly beautiful. Here is a sample.

Rodney Parker & Fifty Peso Reward -- Saturday, Oct. 24 at Andy's Basement Bar & Grill

Rodney Parker and his band Fifty Peso Reward will be playing this Saturday night at Andy's Bar on the square. The band released the 11-track album The Lonesome Dirge earlier this year to much acclaim from both critics as well as fans. For good reason too, the album was nothing short of a masterpiece and it successfully established Parker as one of the most talented musicians in DFW.

We ran an Artist Spotlight on the band a few months ago where we took an in depth look at the album as well as the band itself.

Here is a video of them from earlier this year playing live at the Granada in Dallas
