Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, October 22-28

1

Man, it's getting a little chilly, isn't it? But with the rain (mostly) out of the picture, that's no excuse not to get out of the house. Here are some good options for the coming week.

With a little over a week to go until Halloween, the Fort Worth Zoo will start their annual Boo at the Zoo on Thursday, October 22. Running every night through October 27, the event encourages children to wear their costumes and do some trick-or-treating early at 14 stations located throughout the zoo's grounds.

Also starting on Thursday is Haunted Hollywood at the Courtyard Theatre of Plano. Haunted Hollywood is a Halloween-themed musical review by Plano Dance Theatre recommended for kids 6 and older. Two additional performances will take place on Friday and Saturday.

The Creative Arts Theatre & School in Arlington will present Bunnicula starting on Friday, October 23. The play about what may or may not be a vampire bunny (oh, that old tale again?) will have three performances this weekend and three on Halloween weekend.

To warm yourself up, you can go to the Stop-Drop-n-Roll Chili Cook-Off at the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine on Saturday, October 24. $5 will get you a cup to taste the variety of chilis vying for Best in Show, with proceeds going to the WPI Firefighters’ Fund to assist injured firefighters and families of fallen or injured firefighters.

Addison Circle Park will host Worldfest 2009 on both Saturday and Sunday. The region's largest global festival gives attendees the chance to enjoy food, music, arts & crafts, and movies from countries around the world.

Finally, the Plano Symphony Orchestra will present Spooky Symphony at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson on Sunday, October 25. Before listening to a selection of songs from different Halloween and children's movies, you can visit the Instrument Petting Zoo, something that hopefully doesn't involve animated instruments.
