Photo gallery: Taste of Greenville Avenue brings the neighborhood together
Updated 02:35 p.m., October 26, 2009
DALLAS The parking lot behind the Granada transformed into a family-friendly hootenanny on Saturday for the Taste of Greenville Avenue. My son and I showed up early enough to catch Backside Pick and mill around the tents offering tasty samples from Greenville's neighborhood nosh. The lot was just the right size for a fun afternoon of catching up with our Dallas friends without exhausting ourselves hoofing it across a giant festival field.

TOGA had all the occasion of a larger event, but retained that hometown-feel of familiar faces and back fence gossip. Local artists The King Bucks, Cas Haley, Dan Dyer, Max Stalling, Johnny Lloyd Rollins, Backside Pick, and Paul Renna kept the party mood going throughout the day, the perfect backdrop for watching the kids sink Avi Adelman in a dunk tank. It made my music-loving heart happy -- Lower Greenville has never felt more like Sesame Street.
Presented by Madison Partners LLC and produced by Greenville Avenue Restaurant Association, more than 20 Greenville Avenue restaurants offered appetizer portions from $2 and up while local musicians kept the party mood up. They did a great job getting us all out to support and celebrate the surrounding community, businesses, and organizations. A portion of the proceeds went to benefit Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson elementary schools' PTA programs.
Madison Partners had a booth to share its plans for putting the “green” back in Greenville with a new eco-friendly, sustainable development in this vibrant area of Dallas on the site of the former Arcadia Theater on Lower Greenville Avenue called Greenspace. It will contain approximately 32,000 square feet of retail and office space. Madison will seek LEED certification (US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for the development. The anchor tenant for the project, Natural Grocers, has already signed a lease for a third of the building. Some examples of the planned “green” components will include extensive use of recycled and/or local materials, rain runoff recycling systems, high efficiency plumbing fixtures and HVAC, and intelligent use of landscaping on the West elevation to reduce air-conditioning costs.

"Avi's last words before hitting the water were, 'I can't get any respect.'"

Avi Adelman and Angela Hunt are the two most hated people in the City of Dallas. I am a strong believer of Karma, and believe me it will come into play sooner than you think.
I am pretty sure these people were the loneliest couple of losers growing up. Come to think of it, they still are.

@ LG Resident
I risk stirring up the pot here, but...
If you are so damn sure of your so-called Karma, then why do you hide behind a fake name?
Wouldn't you like to be the one with his foot on my neck and a nice 8 x 10 glossy hanging on your wall of your latest kill??
At the minimum, I have no problem putting my name and face on any comment I make. What's your problem??
When people like you and Jtmbls have nothing better to do than make wussy threats and insult my kids, then we all realize you have absolutely nothing else to say.
TOGA 2009 was an absolute success on more levels than you will ever know. But you would not acknowledge that even on your deathbed, let alone here. We are already planning TOGA 2010 - bigger and better than this one.
Sit and type in the dark, you piece of garbage, my karma is tracking you down even as we speak.
And for the records

Hello.. I am Mrs. Stephenie Esbrand. My husband is the Director of Bands at Woodrow Wilson HS. I must say the event was a blast for the band, my husband and the booster club parents that attended. It just is a damper to my spirit to see no mention of the Wildcat Band and their outstanding performance that day anywhere in the official press release, no pics of them, nothing here on the site. The kids worked hard to be at their best playing level for this event and were so excited to play for you all. They kicked it off, they set the tone for the entire day. The band is listed beside the ribbon cutting time, but are not acknowledged further. We also had no idea area schools benefited from the event. One of which is the feeder school to Woodrow. It would have been nice to have been offered that same opportunity. Parking was a hassle, we ended up paying to park across from the 7-11. Not cool. I hope in the days to come that pictures will be posted, comments will be left and I can relay the message to the kids that they were appreciated. I will even try and post pictures I took for the community to enjoy. I strongly encourage all of you who were there, to call Woodrow and tell administration how well the band did. The Wildcat Band and their Director Duane Esbrand were honored to be asked to be apart of this inaugural event. It was a beautiful sunny day and the kids had a blast. The Wildcat Band is pumped for the rest of the school year!

Avi, Just because someone has a screen name that is not their real name does not mean they are hiding. I don't think you are quite menacing enough to instill that kind of fear.
As for you being one of the most hated people in Dallas, I do not think that is even up for debate. You have single-handedly made Lower Greenville a much, much worse place with your constant complaints and ultra-liberal activism. No one can have fun because it is not your scene? You should move to Plano or possibly McKinney, but you will not because you enjoy being the whining, complaining, caricature of yourself that you have become.
Greenville Avenue used to be a thriving nightlife location for the entire metroplex to enjoy. You are at least 50% responsible for it becoming what it is now, a Gangster's Paradise. Please move North of 635 instead of trying to turn Greenville Avenue into a tame, family-friendly Suburb.
Josh Byers is my real name, let me know if you want to set up a charity boxing match.

I am trying to understand how a story about a restaurant event should bring out your comments about bars.
Last time I looked, the illegal bars were the problem here. And I don't remember anyone ever declaring this area an entertainment zone for the whole metroplex (does anyone still use that word??).
To botch a line from an old movie (I think), I was not here to sign the RPO petitions, but I am sure glad it was here when I moved in.

To David Wilson, Maybe you should stay quiet since you are new to neighborhood. Don't follow these idiots like Mr. Adelman's path. The guy is dead broke, has no education, owns the ugliest house in the entire neighborhood, and is 3 feet tall.
Illegal Bars!! What a stupid comment. The idiots that make these comments have never even been close to owning their own business. What the hell do they know about paying legal taxes??

Since when does the length of residency become a determinator of when someone can or cannot make a comment here or anywhere else?
You gonna make me an offer I can't refuse in order to keep me quiet?
It looks like Ms Hunt and Ms Medrano at the City Council agree with Mr Adelman and all the legitimate businesses on Lower Greenville - did you see this story on KTVT last night?
http://cbs11tv.com/local/Greenville.A...
Hmmm, looks like the legitimate business owners have an issue with the illegal bars too?
But I guess you won't let Ms Hunt speak on the issue either, since she's only been on the Council for four years and in the neighborhood for ten?

What makes it so difficult for the businesses to hire a few Mexicans to cook in the kitchen? It's not rocket science.

Nice to see Avi back posting again. I am glad the event went so well. I also enjoy these comments so much, adds some spice to the day. BTW, has NSL closed down? I don't see any activity there until Friday or Saturdays only.
