Dr. Paul Baker, founder of Dallas Theater Center, dies at 98
Dr. Paul Baker, who had 70 years of artistic excellence and a lifelong commitment to the theater, has passed away at the age of 98. He died at the hospital on October 25, 2009 due to complications from pneumonia. Baker was the founder of the Dallas Theater Center and founding principal of the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Baker’s remarkable contributions to the fields of theater and education continue to be celebrated and studied the world over. The tools he provided to educators, students, artists, and innovators inspiring creative growth and artistic excellence lives on in those he touched. In addition, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
A public memorial and celebration of the life and work of Baker is being planned to take place at Rosewood Center for Family Arts in early December. Details to be announced. Charitable donations to Dallas Children’s Theater in Baker’s name or to the charity of your choice are being accepted in lieu of flowers.
