Why I don’t hate music: Subservient Experiment’s Cory Graves
Welcome to the latest installation of a series called Why I don't hate music, where Crisman taps into the musical taste of people who listen to music for a living. Check out Chandler and Josh Venable's picks while you're at it.
I am a fool for a good music blog. These are clever people after my own heart, and they bring new music to me every week. One of my favorite local blogs is Subservient Experiment -- they've got a great set of ears over there, so I asked SubEx's Cory Graves what music he turns to when he's not scouring for his site.
"I'm adding music to my iPod almost on a daily basis. These are the things that are usually/always in heavy rotation, no matter how much stuff I've added recently."
A.C. Newman - Get Guilty
The Paper Chase – Someday This Could All Be Yours, vol. 1. "One of the best albums to come out this year, no matter how many times I hear it I still can’t get enough."
Danny Balis – Too Much Living
The Dead Weather (or basically anything Jack White touches): "Alison Mosshart’s two stops through town this year were probably the two best live performances I was fortunate enough to witness in 2009."
of Montreal: "Everything they’ve put out from Satanic Panic in the Attic and on is completely brilliant."
Modest Mouse – Lonesome Crowded West
The Smiths – “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want”
Little Joy – Little Joy
Nurses – Apple’s Acre
Passion Pit - Manners
St Vincent - Actor
Weezer: "OK, so they may have jumped the shark a long time ago, but somehow I still just don’t know how to quit them."
Ben Kweller: "I’ve been a big fan of Kweller since back in his Radish days, and I’d still have to say his solo debut Sha Sha is one of my favorite albums of all time."
Neil Diamond: "It’s hard to come up with a live album much better than Hot August Night, in fact, I love the man’s albums so much I named my cat after him."
Keep up with Subservient Experiment on Twitter (@subexblog), they're a hoot and a half.
