Zato Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar just opened in Dallas’ Lake Highlands
Finding good Thai food that's within the loop isn't easy, but the just-opened Zato Thai Cuisine and Sushi Bar qualifies by a hair. The restaurant is located about a block inside 635 on Skillman in what was formerly Thai Basil, which shut down in the spring. (Zato is also a brand name of a rice wine, or sake, originating in the Northeastern/ISAN region of Thailand.)
Zato is owned by Rhe Phetcharat, who has family connections to Jasmine Uniquely Chinese in Addison.
In addition to Thai dishes such as shrimp in a blanket, Zato also does Japanese, including teriyaki dishes and a large sushi selection with nigiri sushi and sushi rolls. The "Love Me Tender Roll" sounds good with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, and avocado topped with masago.
Meanwhile, tightwad alert: Phetcharat says he's waiting for his liquor license, so for now it's BYOB.

lol, the namesake of the restaurant is a brand of sake that you can't even buy in the store? Kinda lame.

coincidentally, Thrillist did an item on Zato today, saying that it's related to the <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/places/jasmine-uniquely-chinese/">Jasmine</a> in Addison, rather than the <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/places/jasmine-plano/">Jasmine in Plano</a>. i've fixed the reference here
