Concert preview: Wolfmother at the House of Blues (October 29)
With the release of their second full-length album, Cosmic Egg, Australia's Wolfmother is hitting the road for what is sure to be a 12-18 month touring cycle which includes a stop this week in Dallas at the House of Blues. Opening act Heartless Bastards serve as primary support.
This is sure to be a powerhouse gig as Wolfmother leader/guitarist/vocalist has recruited a whole new band. And if Cosmic Egg is any indication of what the band has in store, then audiences are sure to be floored. At their August date in Southern California at the Epicenter 2009 show, the band not only ripped through 45 minutes of their debut but also showcased a couple of new tracks, including "California Queen" and "New Moon Rising." The band is leaning towards a '70s live approach that bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath utilized where jams and playing off of one another are intrinsic to the power of the band.
The Heartless Bastards, led by Erika Wennerstrom, who's now joined by bassist Jesse Ebaugh and the first Bastards drummer, Dave Colvin, will be knocking out tracks from their latest Fat Possum record, The Mountain. Garage rockers rejoice! This should be a knock down of a show.
