Woodall Rodgers fully closed this weekend for construction of Deck Park
DALLAS The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues construction of the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park this weekend. In coordination with the American Airlines Center to accommodate traffic for this weekend’s Stars game, a full closure of westbound Woodall Rodgers is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday. Eastbound Woodall Rogers will close at 10:30 p.m. The full closure of Woodall Rodgers Freeway will continue through 5 a.m. Monday.
The closure is necessary for the demolition of the St. Paul exit. The St. Paul exit was closed last week and will be re-constructed. When it re-opens in approximately 6 months, the exit will intersect with St. Paul north of Woodall Rodgers Freeway and allow motorists to turn left and go south on St. Paul. This new configuration will provide an improved intersection.
TxDOT designed the contract to minimize construction impacts and maximize safety for the traveling public. Closures will be limited to nights and weekends as well as further consideration for area events and activities.
The inside lane of both the eastbound and westbound frontage roads will be closed in addition to the complete closure of Woodall Rodgers; however, two frontage road lanes will remain open between St. Paul and Pearl; otherwise, all three frontage road lanes will be available.
Information on future construction activities will be posted on TxDOT’s website at www.txdot.gov in addition to postings on the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation website at www.theparkdallas.org under the mobility section.
TxDOT awarded the $44.5 million dollar contract to Archer Western to construct the deck and plaza over Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The project starts west of St. Paul and extends 1/4 mile to east of Pearl Street, and when complete, will create a short tunnel.
This partnership project between TxDOT, the City of Dallas and the private sector included $16.7 million dollars of enhancement funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is scheduled to be completed in early 2012.
TxDOT asks motorists to drive carefully through the work zone and appreciates their patience during this unique and exciting project.

If you need to get over to I-35 from the Central Expy area, do not try and do it via I-30 and the mixmaster, lest you want to wait in a 45 minute line with 90,000 other lemmings. Cut across farther north (than Woodall) via "whatever" and use Oak Lawn. Or, head farther south on I-45 (from Central) to I-20 and use it. Or use the tollway to I-35 exit.
It was quite comical sailing past them all lined up, up to a mile north of the Woodall exit on Central, last Saturday around noon. We were in the leftmost lane of Central, and even it slowed down somewhat. The 2 right lanes were essentially stopped!
It's a MESS!
