New Lochwood Branch Library to open November 7
The Lochwood Branch Library will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7 at 11221 Lochwood Blvd. The 19,500 square-foot facility replaces the Casa View Branch Library at 10355 Ferguson Road, which has been in operation since 1964.
With 110 parking spots, the new library will have considerably more space for customers than Casa View, which had only 20 spots. The facility will also offer 10 laptops and 25 computer work stations in a wireless environment. Lochwood will also be a Silver Rated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building, which means the building will use less energy and water, use recyclable materials, and promote the use of renewable energy. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings.
Lochwood will be the third Dallas Public Library to have a Black Box Theater, a type of minimal performance space equipped with overhead lighting and flexible seating options. Lochwood was built to house a 70,000-volume collection of books and media, provide public meeting space and two classrooms, along with two self-checkout stations, and easy access to DART.
"This expanded facility will allow us to provide more services and programs and will make it a very special addition to the community," said Director of Libraries Laurie Evans. Dallas City Councilmember Sheffie Kadane, City Manager Mary K. Suhm, Director of Libraries Laurie Evans, and Municipal Library Board Chair Suzanne Charriere are scheduled to speak at the official opening.
