Slocum Street Style Night charity event returns to Dallas’ design district on Oct. 8
DALLAS For more than 30 years, the Portobello Road of America, Dallas' Slocum Street has been a destination mecca for shoppers from around the globe in search of exquisite antiques and furnishings. On Thursday, October 8 from 6-9 p.m., the Slocum Street Antiques and Design Association will throw open the showroom doors for the 11th consecutive year. The event is the popular "Slocum Street Style Night," featuring the special wreath auction benefiting the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS: DIFFA.
Slocum Street Style Night is chaired by former SSADA President Gary Elam and DIFFA Trustees Carol Hatton and Ed Hill. Honorary chairs are prominent designers Stephen Dunn and Cindy Zelazny Rodenhaver.
On this evening, more than 30 showrooms open their doors to the treasures inside and give a once-a-year opportunity to the general public to have a sneak peek, shop, and enjoy food, spirits, and music. With the street closed to vehicle traffic for the evening, guests can enjoy a casual stroll or catch one of the Slocum Style trolleys to move to the next stop. For the first time, the Savor Dallas food and wine event will be showcasing selected restaurants from their culinary roster to preview the upcoming 2010 Savor Dallas. At each trolley stop, the select restaurants will dish up delectable samples of their cuisine.
Again this year, DIFFA revives the wreath auction by holding a silent auction of wreaths for holiday and all occasions, which have been designed and donated by top Dallas designers and Slocum Street showrooms. Additionally, a treasure trove of goodies from Design District galleries will be offered in the silent auction.
"Slocum Street is thrilled to be partnered with DIFFA and Savor Dallas," says Brendan Bass, president of the Slocum Street Antiques and Design Association. "The collaboration of popular designers, DIFFA supporters, Savor Dallas restaurants, and members of the association will make our 11th annual Style Night bigger and better than ever."
"The combination of Slocum Street, DIFFA and Savor Dallas is a win-win for everyone," says Gary Elam, chairman of Style Night.
Savor Dallas restaurants participating to date include Fedora Restaurant and Lounge, The Grill on the Alley, Go Fish Ocean Club, Hibashi Teppan Grill & Sushi Bar, Jorge's, The Kitchen Table at Sheraton Hotel Dallas, Lavendou Bistro Provencal, and Paciugo Gelato.
Considered to be a premier source of antiques and furnishings in the U.S., the 40 showrooms located on Slocum Street are 500,000 square feet of design heaven. By offering a cache of everything from European antiques, oriental rugs, custom furniture, stone furnishings, floral design, and accessories, interior designers can enjoy one-stop shopping.
Complimentary valet parking is available at the entrance to Slocum Street at Hi Line Drive. This event is free and open to the public. Located at 1403 Slocum Street, the DIFFA Wreath Auction will close at 10 p.m.
