93.3 FM playing the old format switcheroo
Commuters, clock radios, and other members of the AM/FM listening community were surprised on Tuesday to discover Quality Rock 93.3 (KBDN-FM) had been replaced by a stream of teaser promotions for a pending format change. This somewhat unorthodox method of alerting the public before the fact has sparked rumors as to what 93.3 could possibly try now.
The call letters have had a hard time finding a lasting sound -- though I really quite enjoyed the obscure adult alternative mix Quality Rock has brought to my car since April, when KDBN dropped "The Bone" classic rock in favor of mainstream indie fare. The "legendary" teaser playing on 93.3 now is a confusing mix of classic rock, motown, classic country, and Top 40 R&B straight out of an Abnormal Psychology textbook.
The whispers about town are as fickle as the teasers. Sources suggest the station could move to anything from Christian Rock, Classic Country, Smooth Jazz, or Urban Adult Contemporary. The only consistency to the chatter is that there will most likely be music of some form or fashion.
Sources say the call letters for “KLIF-FM” were reserved by Cumulus Media Partners on Monday. (Cumulus representatives could not be reached for comment). Looks like we're just going to have to tune in Friday to hear what happens next.

Great, another Top 40 Hits Station. And terrestrial radio dies a little more today...

You guys are just slightly confused. The call letters are KLIF-FM, but that doesn't mean they are playing KLIF programming on the FM signal. It will be i93, Today's Hit Music. Think: Beyonce, Justin, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, etc.

sassathon...if KRLD can put a news/talk format on AM and a Sporttalk format on the fm, then KLIF can do the same ...Talk-am/Talk-fm...we don't need another music station...We need Beck/limbaugh/ingraham/hannity(sp?), on the FM DIAL !!! or smooth jazz!!! just my opinion.....

I certainly don't need "Beck/limbaugh/ingraham/hannity(sp?)" anywhere on my radio dial.
What is "smooth jazz"? Kenny G like stuff?
