Tradewinds, a DIVE BAR, re-opens in Oak Cliff
OAK CLIFF Earlier today, I got the following email:
Well, I held back with this announcement until we had the keys in our hands:
And we now have the keys in our hands.
Ken Arkwell and I have bought a bar in Oak Cliff. WhooooHooooo!
It is a total dive.
The Tradewinds Club.
2843 W Davis St, Dallas, TX 75211
We have big plans, but for now let's get started with meeting there tomorrow night. Ken and I are planning a friends-get-together anytime after 6pm and we both will be there until we close at 2am.
Plus, we will be planning something for the Labor Day weekend. So stand by for more information about that.
See you at:
The Tradewinds Club.
2843 W Davis St, Dallas, TX 75211
It is a total dive, see the Google map:
Seeing as the bar might or might not have been a dive, I had to check it out on our way home from the Elvis Costello show.
I can heartily confirm that Tradewinds is a dive, complete with cutesy bathroom signage and the stated history and potential of remarkable karaoke. We spent, and provided, an entertaining evening of local low-cost color, which is really all you can give or ask of a Local Bar.

Ship's Lounge..is a great dive bar..and for those of you who have been around Dallas long enough..the consummate dive was the Green Glass downtown.

Exactly the kind of bar that Oak Cliff has needed for quite some while ... mixed crowd of cool people, nobody gives a damn about the label on your jeans or the brand of beer you drink, a good host, and decent jukebox ... just needs to get rid of the Deep Ellum paint job inside and will be perfect

Tradewinds is both a trip down memory lane and a look into tomorrow. Old clientele mix with Bishop Arts types and Lee Harvey's loyalists who love Phillip Jester (late Lee Harvey's GM), the co-owner. Drink specials are embarrassingly cheap and bar service uncommonly neighborhood warm. No food as yet but the old TVs were a great place to watch the Cowboys games. Karaoke ever other Saturday night is back and guest DJs. I drop in a lot at odd hours after other things and it's always unpredictable and comfortable. Try the back room back bar for people watching.

Yes get rid of the old Deep Elm paint...Once upon a time it was ok...To paint the outside walls with so much art graphic stuff...After awhile it is visual pollution...As with the Cliff, Bars, Lounges and Cafes that serve liquor....
That was not the case 8 years back, Private Clubs was the slang...Beer joints and Dives is what you will find on Riverside once upon a time Industiral....A/T,..How Dallas could change with a drink of water or a gas can of moonshine...
