Dallas frozen yogurt meltdown: Yogurt By Me near Galleria Dallas
Editor's note: Latest chapter in our series on frozen yogurt covers Yogurt By Me in North Dallas.
Opened: July 2009
Profile: Small, independently-owned self-serve frozen-yogurt place in that new-ish little "urban" center behind Galleria Dallas.
Ambience: Yogurt By Me sits in the same center as Maximo, Go Fish, and most appropriately, Fat Straws Bubble Tea, last year's fro-yo-like craze.
Decor-wise, it has the same self-serve stations lined in tiny tile you see at all these self-serve places. But the tiles here are deep maroon, which is a departure from the usual candy pastels that most of these places choose. In fact, the whole design scheme at Yogurt By Me is dark, with dark slate paneling on the walls and a wacky motif of tree trunk slices that've been shellacked until shiny. It's all very "manly man."
Utensils: Pretty typical paper cartons and plastic spoons. No love for the compostible spoons.
Price per ounce: 45 cents -- the highest around, matched only by Yogilicious. You kindof assume that Yogilicious' McKinney Avenue address translates into higher prices. Is the rent at this little strip center as high as Uptown?
Yogurt: 12 flavors, pretty typical range, from "plain tart" to vanilla, cappuccino, blueberry, green tea, cookies 'n' cream, and their most popular flavor, chocolate. Toppings were all the greatest hits: fruit, cereal, M&Ms, etc.
Verdict: Draw. Glad to see one in the neighborhood but the .45 per ounce is steep.

Brilliant? No. Out of all of the things in the universe that might be interesting to report on yogurt vending has to be at the bottom of the list. But the bottom of the bird's cage does need lining, selecting print now.
Or maybe this is a deep comment on how society panders to the masses. Hmmm, I think not. Wait, news flash, the commissary at the Greyhound Bus station has only a limited menu designed to satisfy the tastes of the NASCAR crowd. Also the general ambiance has a gritty allure if you have the confidence that hand sanitizer actually works. Now please tell me where I can pick up my check.

tetsujin28, are you saying you don't find value in reporting on new frozen yogurt places? they rock my world but i'm biased. there's new places opening every week. we are where it's at right now in the fro-yo world

With all the new places opening up, can't one, just ONE, maybe even for a limited time, once a week, once a month, something - serve up a vegan soft-serve frozen yogurt? I promise it can taste just as good as the cow stuff.
I know, it's a pipe dream, but there's nothing wrong with pipes(?).

But the bacteria don't die, do they? You're just giving them a new environment. An upgrade even, compared to that tiny plastic container they were in. Or lifeless machine, in this case.

James Scott, says:
umm luniz, the living bacteria cultures can come from soy milk too, and yeah, I can eat the hell out of it. Tastes so good.
...and to be clear, I can eat whatever I want - I just choose not to eat products made from animals (which means I can kill any dirty vegetable I want to).

Have you ever heard a carrot scream? Throw a live one into a 2hp Vita-Mix and you will. Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
*(ok, it's clearly Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend and I'm becoming delusional)*

I think frozen yogurt is only OK. So, I'm amazed by how many of these places are popping up everywhere. Does everyone want frozen yogurt but me?
