Not-so-subtle changes to Dallas-Fort Worth radio station
Goodbye, Quality.
We heard this week that changes were afoot with Quality Rock 93.3 -- namely that quality rock was no more and a new mystery format would be introduced Friday, September 4 at noon.
Listeners were introduced to i93 promptly at noon on Friday, as promised. After much speculation as to what format would take over the dial, i93 launched into 93 commercial-free hours of Urban Adult Contemporary. Cumulus seems to be going for the broader market that Beyonce and Lady Gaga can draw -- a big step away from the Indie Alt Rock featured on the station since April.
Perhaps they will see a jump in ratings with this higher mainstream appeal. Meanwhile, the hipsters and audiophiles who enjoyed the rare play of under the radar hits like Gomez, Death Cab for Cutie, and Duffy will have to go back to their iPods or stream online stations like Dallas' own Indieverse.
i93 is now catering to a different audience entirely; perhaps there will be enough people tuning in to keep them around for more than a few months.

It should have been a streaming and on-line "ALL REQUEST ONLY" radio station. Houston once had a "movie tunes only" show for a while, it was entertaining to say the least. Or even maybe techno-trance type club music, a void in the Dallas radio market! I wish the signal was stronger also!

Dallas/Ft Worth area radio continues to underwhelm. I'll split my terrestrial radio time between the Ticket and KTCU, but the bulk of my listening will continue to be via XM or my trusty iPOD.

Gave this a shot for about 5 mins today and they're doing it wrong. So very wrong.
No idea what the song was, but we get it - you're doin it, partying every day (actually listing every day of the week is fantastic, btw, thanks for the reminder that there's 7), and somehow making lots of money in between.
Why?

I really had begun to enjoy Quality Rock - and then it changed. Talk about making sure you NEVER get anyone to listen. The current format sounds like KISS - so why are we duplicating? Go back to a station we don't already have in Dallas and actually serve the market. Just give it more than a minute to catch on. But remember the workout channel that just went away a couple of months ago - loved that one too and now it's a gonner. Dallas is fickle and so are our radio stations!
