Texas Rangers 5, Baltimore Orioles 1
The Texas Rangers notched their fourth straight win Friday night, defeating the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 in Baltimore. The win improved Texas to 76-58, their best record to this point since 2004.
The win helped Texas to within two games of the Boston Red Sox for the wild card, and maintained a 3 1/2 game buffer between Texas and the LA Angels for first place in the AL West.
Rangers starter Scott Feldman was again dominant on the road, winning his 11th road contest of the season, tying a franchise record. Feldman, who is 6-0 in his last seven starts, surrendered just one run on four hits over six-plus innings, and did not allow a runner to reach second until the sixth inning. Feldman is now 15-4 with a 3.62 ERA.
Rangers rookie phenom Nefatli Feliz pitched two and a third innings of perfect relief to close out the game, lowering his insane ERA to 0.41 and earning his second save.
Several Rangers had big days at the plate. Rookie Elvis Andrus opened the scoring in the first and finished 2-for-3 with a walk in the #2 spot, while Chris Davis opened the game wide open with a two-run, two-out single in the top of the fourth. Nelson Cruz finished the Orioles off with a solo home run, his 31st of the season, in the top of the sixth to make it 5-0.
