Audio interview with artist Peter Max, coming to Dallas Sept. 12-13

Artist Peter Max, whose psychedelic, vibrantly colored compositions practically defined the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, will be paying a visit to Dallas next weekend.

Max will be accompanying a roadshow collection of his artwork to the Samuel Lynne Galleries in the Design District, where he'll appear in person on Saturday, Sept. 12 (5-8 p.m.) and Sunday, Sept. 13 (1-4 p.m.).

It would have been impossible to be alive and conscious in the 1960s and 1970s without being familiar with Max's heavily stylized, commercially successful cosmic compositions -- which have carried over quite comfortably into the new millennium, as evidenced by the cover art Max created for the January 2000 issue of Playboy.

I spoke with Peter Max by telephone last Wednesday (Sept. 2); the audio of our conversation lasts about 8 1/2 minutes, during which Max discusses his early interest in astronomy, his brush (pun intended) with graphic realism, and the way technology has changed his workflow.

OH - and if you bring a copy of his art book to the gallery, Max will be pleased to sign it -- and include a little personalized doodle, to boot.

Kevin Kunreuther, says:

I want to point out Peter Max had NOTHING to do with the art direction or design in the film <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Submarine_%28film%29">Yellow Submarine</a>, the designs and ideas were by the late great <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Edelmann">Heinz Edelmann</a>.
