SMU Mustangs rally to beat Stephen F. Austin

2

SMU trailed 23-14 heading into the fourth quarter in their opening game Saturday night, but the Mustangs scored 17 unanswered points including a 49 yard touchdown run by running back Shawnbrey McNeal, who was recently ruled eligible to play, surviving the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks 31-23 at Gerald Ford Stadium.

McNeal, a Dallas Madison graduate, finished the night with 158 yards rushing on only 18 carries. Stephen F. Austin out-gained the Mustangs in total yards 460 to 355 yards. The Football Championship Subdivision Lumberjacks gave the Mustangs more than they wanted on a night when the Mustangs celebrated the 1989 football team and the success of their "Sellout 2009" campaign.

The Mustangs defense did manage to force six turnovers including five interceptions, in spite of giving 391 passing yards on 31 completions by Stephen F. Austin quarterback Jeremy Moses.

Hey there kegreport:

Welcome -- I smell a Jake Batsell homework assignment behind these links.

A couple tips for smart linking in comments-- you want to pick a more recent story if you can, as folks don't read this far back as much. And the other link you did on the stadium probably wasn't relevant enough to that content to draw people.

Hope this helps...
