Taste of Greenville Avenue event (TOGA) moving location to Granada Theater parking lot
This will give them more room than the previous location in the parking lot at the Vickery Towers center.
DALLAS The Greenville Avenue Restaurant Association (GARA), sponsors of the first Taste of Greenville Avenue event set for October 24, has announced that the event will be changing location.
The great public reaction to the event -- the first of its kind in Greenville Avenue's history -- prompted the Association to seek a location that was larger and more open than the parking lot at the Vickery Towers center on Greenville and Belmont Avenues.
The event will be held on the parking lot behind the Granada Theater, 3524 Greenville Avenue. The date (October 24) and schedule (event opens at 11 a.m., closes at 6 p.m., sunset at 6:44 p.m.) are not changing.
As of this weekend, eleven GARA members have committed to participating, and restaurants from Greenville Avenue north of Mockingbird Lane are putting their plans together.
The number of restaurant booths planned is still set at 30, but the venue will have more space between the booths. Public service displays (Dallas Fire/Rescue and Dallas Police Department) will have an easier time setting up.

Help me out...What is it about Avi? It seems that there is alot of animosity about him. I'm just curious. I don't know ANYTHING about the situations. Does he own a restaurant/bar on lower greenville? Please educate me...We don't hear much about that area, up here in plano....

to David in Plano from David in Dallas
Ignore Russ' comment, he is just one of many Avi haters here on the blog (I can already feel the heat of flamers looking at this post).
Avi runs a website on lowest greenville called BarkingDogs.org which regularly rips the bad bars on his end of greenville for their bad behavior
And with his neighbors - and i live here but was not here when the petitions were going around - petitioned to get all the streets blocked on weekend evenings so bar patrons can't park here and bother us
Russ and others are just frothing about this party because Avi was hired to organize it by restaurants (no bars allowed in the group) that are trying to stand up over the bad bars and give back something to the neighborhood besides pissing in the yards. I cannot wait to get out to the toga party and buy food from places that I might visit for more than a beer.
Look at the list of restaurants in the party group, tasteofgreenvilleavenue.com - most of them are more than 20 years old. Most of the bad bars are less than five years old (except for my favorite, old crow).
Russ and his friends are afraid - and I completely understand it - that if people who live here demand more restaurants than bars, and show it with their money, then the bad bars will go somewhere else.
Damn good idea if you ask me. But Russ will say, Oh no he did not ask me!
Does that help?
Duck, here comes a flamer!!!!

Mr. Torres, considering Mr. Wilson's activity on the site is solely revolved around topics Avi has created or interjected in, I wouldn't put much thought into above response.
In the interest of objectivity I encourage you to read through Avi's activity here and on his website - I'm confident you'll then understand the animosity towards him. Only people who really support him or really despise him will bother answering your question, either way you get a biased response.
But I will say this: It's not so much what Avi does, it's how he does it.

I had no idea there was a quota on the amount of topics that are of no interest to me to which I should comment. Are you the keeper of records and goalsetting?
Scott, since you blog so much here on just about everything posted, does that mean you don't have life that revolves around the keyboard and a camping toilet by your desk??
Better to keep your mouth shut and make people wonder what you are thinking, than to say something and prove your stupidity.

ScoDo is in charge of the Comment Continuous Measurable Improvement Advisory Council and Whitespace Sergeant at Arms.
It's not a position worthy of reserved parking, but it does get him front seats at The Pearl so it's worth maintaining the title.

Not sure Russ has ever been critical of Adelman's activities. His comment certainly reflects the sentiment of many when it comes to Adelman making arrogant, if not racist comments, when it comes to his own activities. It inevitably leads to a torrent of ill will, which is fairly plain to read, if one does as ScoDo suggested David Torres do for himself. Perhaps, David Wilson, you should swallow some of your own advice before proceeding.

I personally think the whole thing is raw brilliance. Avi in charge of the one thing that he could handily destroy for the wrong reasons... coopting each other for the greater good. Genius on his part for matching his agenda. Genius on the restaurants' part for leveraging his verve and venom. Problems almost always solve each other.
And, yeah, Dave-O -- Russ is a bigger fan of LG proper than you have bothered to research and you are, after all, batting 1000 on the "Avi" Google Alerts.

Mr. Wilson, I'm sincerely flattered that you interrupted your Avi-gazing long enough to fly off the handle on my account.

We appreciate the prime example.
J-Rizzle, kudos. I presume you had your camp toilet delivered while shopping Avi & Dave? Pls link if it was a solid deal.

Hey there David_Wilson and others,......I did not know Avi is supporting the restaurants on this event! I am glad he is, but it's a double-standard. I guess people don't get drunk at restaurants and take up parking spaces and piss in peoples yards either on lower Greenville,...it is just people from bars only do that sorta thing. I am NOT an Avi hater, he is colorful and entertaining, but over does things quite a bit.

Oh no he DI-NT!! Perhaps Avi Junior should read a bit and dare I say think before he posts. The good will I wished upon Avi and his new endeavor is slipping away now that I see he has been secretly grooming himself an equally annoying mini-me.
I will thank you mini-Avi for enlightening me to one obvious question any lady must consider prior to attending such an event. Will the majority of men in attendance resemble Napoleon Dynamite? Question answered.
Next time, I suggest you ask permission before slamming the Doyle.

Sure am glad I decided against that final beer of the evening. Clearly Travis did not.
But considering jtm's starting the line to "slam" me, not sure whether I should be afraid or aroused. I'm leaning towards both.

Yes... that's the location.
It's very scenic... battered garbage cans, oil splattered driveways and a decaying fence. It's very reminiscent of a front yard on Belmont.

Then put me on the "anti-Avi" bandwagon. Who want's to go to a 'block party' IN THE BACK OF A BUILDING? I was visioning a MAYFEST-type atmosphere, with alot of stands with food choices!!! WHY IS THERE NO RAIL/TRANSIT that goes up and down Lower Greenville? Like a trolley-system? Just curious/my opinion!!

At the very least they could have those Free Mall Ride buses from one end to the other like they do in downtown Denver. They seem to understand that accessibility is everything there.

Pssh, something that might reduce parking fees and income from DWI's? They'll have none of it!
Nevermind that it would improve revenues for local businesses, limit people wandering around the surrounding neighborhoods and reduce drunk driving. Who wants that?

couldn't Dart come up with something? get the grocery stores to participate, ie, tom Thumb/Old Town, Kroger/mockingbird/ the village apts...etc. Those parking lots aren't in use at night. Have a shuttle program. SOMETHING...I don't know why Avi and the other lower greenville residents/merchants dont' divise a plan, that would behoove(sp?) them? just my opinion...Sorry Russ...does this qualify as an AVI post?
