Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, September 10-16

1

This week, you can see butterflies in Southlake and Dallas, disaster fun in Mesquite, and schools rocking out at the House of Blues.

Starting on Friday, September 11, the Kiwanis Club of Northeast Tarrant County will host the Kiwanis Butterfly Festival in the Southlake Town Square. The three-day festival will feature a walk with hundreds of butterflies, contained in a 600 square foot tent, along with local flowering plants.

Not to be outdone, the Texas Discovery Gardens in Dallas will celebrate their new Butterfly House and Insectarium with a Grand Opening Weekend. The event, taking place on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, will have a ribbon cutting on Saturday morning, followed by timed tickets to the Butterfly House.

Mesquite is trying to get its citizens ready for a possible disaster with Preparedness at the Park at the Travis Williams Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 12. The fun will include opportunities to see the DPS helicopter, fire trucks, bomb robot, and police cars up close.

Finally, the House of Blues in Dallas will host the For Those About to Rock School Showcase on Sunday, September 13. There's no info on what schools are participating or exactly what they'll be playing, but it's probably safe to say that the event will rock hard.

The DART Super Saturday party at MLK is probably the kid-friendliest of them all!
