“I know Daniel Hernandez very well as a player having coached him at SMU,” FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman said. “He’s a strong player that will add tremendous experience to our line-up. His time with the Mexican First Division and past success in MLS will help us in our final push for a playoff spot this season and in the future.”

Hernandez began his professional career when he was drafted out of Southern Methodist University by the Los Angeles Galaxy in 1998. He would go on to spend time with the Tampa Bay Mutiny, the New York MetroStars, and the New England Revolution for a total of 115 MLS games. He logged four goals and 15 assists over eight years.

The 33-year-old veteran also helped the New England Revolution to successful runs in 2002, 2005, and 2006, when the team won the Eastern Conference Championship and advanced to the MLS Cup Final where Hernandez started all three games.

The midfielder/defender also played for three Mexican First Division teams including Necaxa, Puebla F.C., and Jaguares de Chiapas over five years.

Hernandez grew up in nearby Tyler and attended Southern Methodist University, where he played under FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman for three years. While at SMU, Hernandez was First Team All-American as an attacking midfielder.

In another roster move, forward/midfielder Alvaro “Tom” Sanchez was added to the disabled list with a right ankle injury. Sanchez was signed by FC Dallas on April 3 on loan from AD San Carlos of Costa Rica’s Primera Division. Sanchez appeared in three games for FC Dallas this season.
