FC Dallas 6, LA Galaxy 3

This was the final meeting between FC Dallas and the LA Galaxy in regular season play, and Dallas won the 2009 season series with the Sept. 12 win and the 1-1 tie back on May 23. Dallas is now 18-23-8 all time against LA and 5-17-3 on the road at the Galaxy. This was the second road win for Dallas this season.

FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman on the game: “I’m very excited for our team and fans. Coming here playing a very good team like the Galaxy, who has been playing well, and to be able to score the number of goals we scored. I said it at half time when it was 2-2 that there would be more goals. It was a great game for the fans — two teams that attacked. We were fortunate to come out with a win.”

This is the first time in club history, FC Dallas has scored six goals in a game twice in a season. (Tonight’s 6-3 win comes a little over a month after the 6-0 shutout of Kansas City on August 1.)

Other notes:

* Dave van den Bergh scored his third goal of the season off a free kick early in the eighth minute. A David Beckham handball se tup a free kick outside the 18-yard box for van den Bergh’s goal.

* Cunningham scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season and 115th and 116th of his career tonight securing sole possession of second place on the all-time MLS goals list.

* Cunningham also scored the 34th game-winning goal of his MLS career securing sole possession of first all-time in the record books.

* Harris recorded his second and third assists of the season on Cunningham’s two goals.

* Dax McCarty scored his second goal of the season in tonight’s match, his first coming three weeks ago versus the New York Red Bulls.

* Cunningham notched his sixth assist of the season after he found McCarty making a run in front of the Galaxy goal. He has now recorded an assist in three consecutive games.

* Harris scored his first goal in a Dallas uniform when he headed home a Dax McCarty cross. It was McCarty third assist of the season.

* David Ferreira scored his sixth goal of the season when he received a pass from Cunningham from the right side and dribbled past Berhalter before hitting a left-footed shot past Ricketts. It was Cunningham’s seventh assist of the season.

* Brek Shea recorded his fourth assist of the season on Cunningham’s second goal after coming off the bench in the 69th minute.

* Honduran international Marvin Chavez made his first start for FC Dallas in the midfield tonight after signing with the team on August 18.

* New acquisition Daniel Hernandez made his first appearance for FC Dallas since signing with the team earlier this week as a second half substitute.

* Daniel Torres was suspended for tonight’s match due to a red card he received in last week’s game versus D.C. United.

* Two FCD players have now started all 24 regular season games: David Ferreira and Dave van den Bergh.

* Three Dallas players missed the game with injuries: Defenders Kyle Davies (concussion) and Anthony Wallace (left knee) and midfielder Andre Rocha (illness).

FC Dallas next travels to play the Kansas City Wizards Saturday, September 19 (7:30 p.m., live on KFWD-52) at the CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
