Seattle Mariners 8, Texas Rangers 3

— The Texas Rangers continued to start slow at home, losing 8-3 to the Seattle Mariners on a rainy day at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The loss, which was delayed at various times by torrential downpour, dropped Texas to 79-61 on the season.

With the loss, Texas fell further back in one of their two playoff chases. The Rangers are now a full three games behind the Boston Red Sox for the wild card, and maintained a five and a half game deficit with the LA Angels for first place in the AL West.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood was once again terrible, giving up five runs on eight hits over just three-plus innings. Millwood, who started the season nearly unhittable, fell to 10-10 with a 3.94 ERA. In his last 12 starts -- coinciding with Texas' desperate playoff push -- Millwood is a pathetic 2-6 with an ERA above 6.00.

While Millwood may have torpedoed Texas' chances to win this game, the offense wasn't doing him any favors either. The team as a whole sleptwalked through the evening, amassing just six total hits and two walks.

Rookie phenom Julio Borbon was impressive, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to bring Texas to within 3-2, and again driving in Chris Davis in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-3 Seattle. Davis finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
