Arlington Museum of Art to feature UT Arlington photography exhibit

1

The Arlington Museum of Art will feature "Made in Italy," an exhibit of photography by University of Texas at Arlington students and faculty, who recently studied in Florence, Italy. The exhibit opens Saturday, Sept. 19, and there will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. The museum is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Undergraduate and graduate students studied this summer at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence under the direction of Kenda North, a photography professor at UT Arlington. The exhibit will include photographs, large-scale prints, and self-published books in the main gallery of the museum. The photographs represent personal responses to living in Florence for a month, as well as trips to Venice, Lucca, Rome, and Cinque Terre.

“These are images which challenge typical travel photography, both in concept and in presentation,” North said.

The exhibition, the fifth one of student/faculty work in Italy held at the museum, closes Oct. 18.

In addition to North, participating artists are students Ashley E. Allen, Jesse Barnett, Kimberly Bell, Justin Bolle, Annie Donovan, Casey Kopecky, Erica Martinez, Katie Nixon, Amber Lea Taylor, Jenny Todd, Daniel Guiterrez, and Laurie L. Ward.

Exhibition sponsors include Arlington Camera, Imaging Spectrum, Kar Lynn Arts, Red River Paper, and the Department of Art and Art History at UT Arlington.

Contact the Arlington Museum of Art at 817-275-4600 or Kenda North at kenda@uta.edu for more information.
