Texas Department of Transportation to replace five bridges in Ellis County
The Texas Department of Transportation broke ground on Sept. 11 on a single project to replace five county bridges in southern Ellis County near Italy and Forreston.
The $1.6 million project is funded by economic stimulus funds or funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The five locations are Franks Road at Richland Creek, Pluto Road at Mill Creek, Morgan Road at Hog Creek Tributary, Schield Road at Elm Branch, and Pecan Tree Road at Big Onion Creek.
Pluto Road and Morgan Road will be closed one at a time while the bridges there are replaced. Schield Road will remain open during construction, but only one direction of traffic at a time will be directed through the worksite. Once these three bridges are opened to traffic, work will begin on Franks Road and Pecan Tree Road.
Big Creek Construction, LTD. of Hewitt, Texas, is the contractor on the project. All bridges are expected to be complete by December of 2011. In accordance with ARRA requirements, this project has a 5% DBE goal and a required Equal Employment Opportunity officer to ensure an employee receives on-the-job-training to apply toward career advancement.
