The Rangers weren't so kind to the Mariners Sunday afternoon.

— The Texas Rangers braved the rainstorm Sunday afternoon to win the first game of the doubleheader, defeating the Seattle Mariners 7-2 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The much-needed win improved Texas to 80-62 on the season.

Rangers rookie starter Tommy Hunter was once again in fine form, surrendering just two runs -- one of them earned -- over a complete nine innings of work, scattering six hits and a single walk. Hunter is now 8-3 with a 3.23 ERA.

The Rangers got offensive contributions up and down the lineup for a change, with eight of nine Rangers starters registering at least one hit. Third baseman Esteban German led the charge from the ninth spot, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and another driven in.

The Rangers also managed to hit three solo home runs, by David Murphy, Nelson Cruz, and Chris Davis.
