Live music events in Dallas-Fort Worth, September 17-20
While many bands clamor for attention, I find wild-eyed fans to be ever so much more effective in matters of persuasion. This weekend's line-up is inspired by the more rabid encounters I have had with music fans around North Texas.
Lydia / Play Radio Play / All The Day Holiday
| When: | Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, 10 p.m. |
| Where: | Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio, 411 East Sycamore Street, Denton |
| Cost: | $12 |
| Age limit: | 17+ |

Patrick F. has been telling me to go see Lydia (Arizona) and Play Radio Play (Fort Worth) for several weeks now -- almost to the point of alarm. The smitten music wonk went as far as to scribble this Rubber Gloves show in unattended day-planners and bring up the show date in conversation (even when it didn't necessarily belong). I also have a sneaking suspicion he had some involvement in this Play Radio Play/Lydia mix tape on my desk. For this, I commend him. There's something to be said for rabid-fan marketing.
Michael League Trio
| When: | Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. |
| Where: | Cold Fusion Lounge, 212 E. Hickory Street, Denton |
| Cost: | $5 - $7 |
| Age limit: | 18+ |

Friday
Can you imagine? Michael League was the first person to ever label me a "superfan." He would certainly know. Poor Snarky Puppy has had to contend with my own insatiable admiration for years. Friday night at Cold Fusion will be a snazzy example of League's knack for surrounding himself with unbelievably talented musicians. He's like a Beautiful Katamari of good music. He'll be playing with Eymard Furtado and Jason "JT" Thomas (Roy Hargrove, RH Factor). Expect a few other Pups to drop in as well.
Villain Vanguard
| When: | Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, 10:30 p.m. |
| Where: | Blue Grotto, 517 University Drive, Fort Worth |
| Cost: | Not available |
| Age limit: | 21+ |

Saturday
Fort Worth jazz/funk group, Villain Vanguard is a fine example of a band lighting up my radar ages before I manage to haul my cookies out to a show. Bethany J. is doing her very best to make sure that anyone she ever meets who displays a perfunctory appreciation for good music knows about Villain Vanguard: She actually has a short list of bands she wants us all to hear, and it's not bad. You can catch Villain Vanguard funking up the Blue Grotto (and making Bethany proud).
The Blue Hit / The Boxcar Bandits
| When: | Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, 10 p.m. |
| Where: | Boiler Room, 101 West Hickory Street, Denton |
| Cost: | Not available |
| Age limit: | 18+ |

Sunday
I don't know how many hippies you know, but I live in Denton, so they're a regular part of my day-to-day existence. They have infamously killer taste in music (and it's not all Woodstock fare). What's making these peaceful people dance these days? Kerrville Folk. Just mention Kerrville around the right patchouli-esque company and you'll find yourself in the middle of a starry-eyed tale of the Kerrville Folk Festival, and more often than not, the mention of an "Austin" band called Blue Hit. You can count on much dancing in the Boiler Room on Sunday. Wear a flower in your hair.
