Interview: Caroline Rhea of A Sordid Comedy Affair
In anticipation of A Sordid Comedy Affair coming to the Majestic Theatre in Dallas for Pride Weekend, we stalked, friended on Facebook, posed as her gynecologist, went through all the proper, legal channels to secure a Q&A opportunity with one of the stars of Sordid Lives: The Series, Caroline Rhea.
Whether you know her best from her hilarious portrayal of trailer trash on the LOGO show, or from her stint on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (we know you watched) or The Biggest Loser, she’s one of the funniest ladies we have ever showered with, crank called, had the privilege of interviewing. Her answers are brief (hey, we’re no Barbara Walters), but then again, she’s a new mother and we hear that can be time-consuming.
Gay List Daily: So, we’re very excited to have you in Dallas this weekend for A Sordid Comedy Affair. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re in Dallas?
Rhea: Have my hair heightened.
Gay List Daily: What exactly can people expect from Saturday’s shows?
Rhea: Spontaneous hilarity.
Gay List Daily: In Sordid Lives: The Series, you’re taking over a role originated by Delta Burke. You’re following in a long line of great switcheroos, like the second Darrin on Bewitched, the new Ginger on Gilligan’s Island, or Marilyn on The Munsters. Who’s your favorite person to have taken over someone else’s role?
Rhea: I don't know, but I once met the original Marilyn, Tabitha from Bewitched, and Ernie from My Three Sons all in the same day.
Gay List Daily: What would you tell Delta if she told you she wanted the role back?
Rhea: I say we go for evil twin sisters separated at birth.
Gay List Daily: We know the fate of a second season of Sordid Lives is still undetermined, but if it does happen, what would you like to see Noleta do?
Rhea: Have sex with Hunter in much better lighting and invisible Spandex.
Gay List Daily: Wouldn’t we all! What’s your favorite one-liner from the show?
Rhea: Quit zig-zaggin'!
Gay List Daily: On the Sordid Lives set, we know crazy things occur. What are the funniest incidents from the set?
Rhea: Watching Leslie Jordan do anything.
Gay List Daily: If you were forced to choose one cast member from Sordid Lives to work with again, who would it be and why?
Rhea: Any of them.
Gay List Daily: When you took over Rosie O’Donnell’s talk show after she left, that probably helped boost your gay fan base. Who’s the most important gay in your life right now?
Rhea: Del Shores, he puts the "co" in my dependent.
Gay List Daily: What do you like most about your gay fans?
Rhea: They're incredibly smart and smell nice.
Gay List Daily: You’ve played a witch, Mrs. Claus (twice), and a gun-toting trailer trash wife. What draws you most to a role?
Rhea: If the character is funny.
Gay List Daily: So what’s next for you?
Rhea: I have an eleven-month old who's making all the important decisions now. Whatever she wants.
Catch Caroline Rhea and many other stars at A Sordid Comedy Affair this weekend.
