Texas Woman’s University posts 7.2 percent enrollment gain

0

— Enrollment at Texas Woman's University is up 7.2% to a record 13,358 students, marking TWU's eighth consecutive year of enrollment growth.

More importantly, TWU’s total semester credit hours are up 6.1% from last fall to 129,532 hours — also a record. Student credit hours, not headcount, determine a university’s state funding. All numbers are based on preliminary 12th class day data.

“I applaud the tireless efforts of faculty and staff in Denton, Dallas and Houston who helped TWU achieve another year of record growth,” TWU Chancellor Ann Stuart said. “An uncertain jobs market is leading to careers in stable professions, and this is where TWU succeeds by offering quality programs in health care, education, and business.”

Overall, undergraduate student enrollment increased 5.7% to 7,845 students. Graduate enrollment is 5,512 students, up 9.3% from last fall.

Enrollment on the Denton campus increased 6.7% to 10,932 students, and Houston center enrollment grew 4.4% to 1,236 students for fall 2009.

Enrollment at the Dallas center also increased 14.5% to 1,190 students. To accommodate continued growth in Dallas, TWU is building a new $55.5 million TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center, which will combine TWU’s Parkland and Presbyterian sites into a dynamic campus-in-one building at the Parkland location. The new institute is expected to open in 2011.
