Dallas frozen yogurt meltdown: FreshBerry Cafe at Park Lane in Dallas

Editor's note: Latest chapter in our series on frozen yogurt covers FreshBerry Cafe at the new Park Lane complex in Dallas.

Opened: August 2009

Profile: New optimistic mom-and-pop serves as the obligatory frozen-yogurt place in the new Park Lane center off 75, across from Bailey's Prime. At FreshBerry, frozen yogurt is part of a bigger package that also includes smoothies and frozen-yogurt pops. They'll be opening their second branch in Farmers Branch in mid-October.

Ambiance: Small space but friendly, with pale green translucent lucite walls, orange lucite table-tops, orange & white plastic furniture, warmed up by a wavy-orange pattern fabric banquette. Anthony de Manincor, who co-owns the place with his wife Courtenay, is more-often-than-not there and he's exceedingly friendly, with a nifty accent (he's a native of Australia), if you like that sort of thing.

Utensils: Plastic spoons :(, but paper cups, thank you.

Price: $3.99 for a "small" 5-1/2- to 6-ounce serving -- which comes out to 66+ cents per ounce. Ouch! Even with three "free" toppings, that's the highest price notched so far. Did I mention that Tony is really pleasant?

Yogurt: Six flavors, with one flavor rotation. There is always "plain/tart," dark chocolate, strawberry, sugar-free vanilla, acai, and then two flavors that rotate: mango and pomegranate. The lush texture seemed similar to BerryBerry, although the consistency wasn't quite as foamy. Tried a combination of acai, which was sweet and berry-like, and the plain which had a bit of a sour-milk thing going on.

Verdict: Draw. Main value is that it brings frozen yogurt to Park Lane, and every shopping center in the land should have its own frozen-yogurt place.

Blah Blah, been there, and just blah. Staff needs personality, then people will want to go back and deal with the parking in a grarage to get there.

Lovelybro,

I am the owner of FreshBerry and I highly disagree with your comment about our staff. If you could be more specific, I will look into this myself, as I want the best from my staff.

Please come back and visit us again. I will most likely be in the store and will personally serve you myself to give you that personality you are looking for.

Thanks

Sour-milk thing? I thought the "plain" flavor was amazing. It was anything but plain, sort of tart but in a sweet, cream-cheesy way. I loved it.
