LA Angels 2, Texas Rangers 0
ARLINGTON The Texas Rangers' march to mediocrity gained even more steam Friday night, losing 2-0 to the LA Angels at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The loss was the fifth straight for Texas, which fell to 80-66.
The loss meant that Texas fell to 7 1/2 games behind the Angels for first place in the AL West, while also falling to a full seven games behind the Boston Red Sox for the AL wild card. The Rangers have just 16 games left in the season.
Rangers rookie starter Tommy Hunter was good, but not good enough, surrendering just two runs on five hits over five innings of work. Hunter fell to 8-4 with a 3.65 ERA.
The Rangers hitters, on the other hand, continued their abysmal streak of not being able to score a single run. The loss was the fourth shutout in the last five games for Texas, which has scored just one run in their last 46 innings.
Other than loading the bases in the bottom of the eighth, the Rangers failed to mount anything resembling an offensive threat all game. The team hit eight harmless singles and collected just two walks.
