The win meant that Texas gained ground in their unlikely playoff chase, as they now stand a mere six and a half games behind the LA Angels for first place in the AL West. Texas is still seven games behind the Boston Red Sox in the wild card race with 15 games remaining.
Rangers starter Scott Feldman was impressive against the potent Angels lineup, surrendering just two runs on four hits over six-plus innings of work. Feldman, who walked one and struck out four, improved to 17-5 on the season with a 3.62 ERA. Frank Francisco pitched a tense ninth for his 23rd save of the season.
The Rangers offense --which had scored just one run in the previous five games-- came alive in the bottom of the third, when Chris Davis doubled in Nelson Cruz for the rare 1-0 lead. Elvis Andrus added an RBI single in the fifth to tie it at 2-2, and Hank Blalock homered in the winning run with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth.
