Texas Rangers 10, Oakland A’s 3

0

The Texas Rangers finally escaped the miserable confines of Arlington Monday night, soundly defeating the Oakland A's 10-3 in Oakland. The win came after an atrocious 2-9 homestand, and improved Texas to 82-67 on the season.

Thanks to last week's power outage, it may be too little, too late for the Rangers.

Thanks to last week's power outage, it may be too little, too late for the Rangers.

With the win, the Rangers maintained their 7 1/2 game deficit behind the LA Angels for first place in the AL West, but gained ground in the wild card race. Texas is a mere seven games behind the Boston Red Sox with 13 to play.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood, one of the primary culprits in the Rangers' late season collapse, pitched brilliantly, surrendering just one unearned run on three hits over seven solid innings. Millwood, who had won just two of his last 12 starts, improved to 11-10 with a 3.79 ERA.

Several Rangers had banner days at the plate, as the team pounded out 15 hits and ten runs without the aid of a single home run. David Murphy, hitting in the #3 spot, went 3-for-4 with a pair of walks, a double, two runs, and two RBI, while rookie leadoff phenom Julio Borbon went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a pair of RBI, and his 16th stolen base of the year.

Veteran Hank Blalock, who had been benched for most of the Rangers' recent offensive power outages, went 3-for-5 with two RBI, a double, and a run scored. Chris Davis and Marlon Byrd also had multi-hit days.
